In this workshop, students will be making an adorable Fondant Figure! You will be able to pick up many great fondant modeling techniques from structuring to facial feature secrets! There will also be a demo on how to create a 3D cookie cup and saucer. Then we'll learn how to decorate this cup in a whimsical style. Creativity is encouraged! Mimicafe Union Owner / Fondant Cake Topper Creator
Sachiko Windbiel is the owner and creative force of mimicafe Union, a fondant skills resource, based in Santa Monica, California. Sachiko’s specialty is Fondant Figure Modeling, creating fantastically life-like and expressive figures for cakes and cupcakes that become cherished keepsakes from life’s most treasured celebrations. Her artistic skills are inspired by her childhood fascination with Manga and Animation features, fueling her imagination and dreams. Sachiko likes to say that her mission is to “Spread Joy” and it’s at her fondant workshops that she feels she’s on the right path, meeting new people and working with them to develop their figure modeling skills and enjoy their own creativity.
Michelle started Good Gracious Cakes in 2006. She combines her background in Art and Design with her passion for dessert. Boyd earned her bachelor's degree in Art and Art History from Northern Illinois University, and spent several years working as a graphic designer and illustrator. Inspired by the cake artists on one of the early cake shows on Food Network, she realized that if she combined her love for dessert and love for art - that sugar would be her next medium.
That's when Michelle started my own custom cake business - Good Gracious Cakes and worked at a major cake decorating supply company decorating cakes and cookies for photography for advertising and publications. She has appeared on Food Network's Sugar Dome, as well as a lead assistant on 3 episodes of TLC's Ultimate Cake-Off, and co-directed several local and national cake shows/competitions.
Michelle specializes in creating extreme cakes for large scale events, teaching classes and giving demonstrations in various sugar arts mediums.
